Together with Johan Gustavsson I’m showing drawings at Liefhertje & de Grote Witte Reus, Stationsweg 55, 2515 BJ, The Hague. This exhibition is running from 19.12.09 up till 06.02.10
and they’re open from tuesdays through saturdays from 10 am-19 pm.
Before this exhibition Robert Jan Verhagen, who’s in fact de Grote Witte Reus (The Big White Giant), Johan and me had some really interesting conversations about drawing and the presentation of our work. We both tend to conceal our drawings with installations so we decided to just show the drawings this time. We made a very sec presentation with on one wall my works and on the other wall Johan’s works. All works were framed, which is the first time for me. I’m still not completely sure how I feel about this, but in the end the exhibtion is really clear and quite fresh.
Trendbeheer published about the show on their website, here’s the link.
The photos of the exhibition on this blog are not very good, and it states I’m working on a comic book – which is more or less true, but it might take a while before I’m getting serious about that. The drawings are part of the book. I made the drawings that are shown in The Hague during a residency in Los Angeles in the summer of 2009. At the end of the residency I abandoned this way of telling a story and started to draw more intuitively. Which is a difficult thing for me because I tend to overthink everything a lot.
